As Grand Master, my theme for the year is “Timeless Values and Traditions.” I firmly believe that the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth remain as essential today as they were when our ancient landmarks were first established. These virtues are not relics of the past; they are enduring guides the world still needs.

Yet I also recognize that the world has changed, and expectations have changed with it. If we are to preserve the vitality of our Craft, we must ensure that the experience we offer is worthy of the values we profess. Today’s candidates are not seeking additional obligations in already demanding lives. They are seeking meaning, personal growth, genuine fellowship, and purposeful service.

When our lodges provide these experiences with intention and excellence, men respond—they engage, they participate, and they remain. Therefore, I will encourage our lodges to elevate the quality of the Masonic experience. Our meetings should be conducted with dignity and efficiency. Our educational efforts should be thoughtful and enriching. Our fellowship must be warm, sincere, and inclusive. And our mentoring must be deliberate, ensuring that every new Brother feels guided, valued, and connected.

We must also communicate clearly and confidently about who we are and what we do. The good works of Iowa Masonry are many, yet too often they are known only within our own walls. People cannot appreciate what they cannot see. Our story is worth telling, and we must tell it with pride, accuracy, and humility.

Our service must remain visible and impactful. Through initiatives such as Square Meals, support for local schools, and acts of quiet charity performed without expectation of recognition, our lodges must continue to be known for compassion in action. In doing so, we honor our ritual and demonstrate the enduring relevance of our Craft.

None of these efforts require us to abandon our traditions. In fact, they preserve them. Our ritual, our symbols, and our teachings are treasures entrusted to our care, and they shine most brightly when they are connected to the lives of the men who practice them.

The future of Freemasonry in Iowa will not be determined by chance. It will be shaped by our dedication to excellence, our willingness to adapt where appropriate, and our unwavering commitment to the principles that define us.
